[PRESS RELEASE] THE TOO FLY FOUNDATION HELPS 300 BLACK & BROWN STUDENTS TRAVEL ABROAD

DALLAS, TX–November 21, 2023… The Too Fly Foundation is a nonprofit with the mission of expanding the horizons of black and brown students, nationwide. Since 2016, the foundation has accomplished this goal by issuing scholarships to students studying abroad, as well as other initiatives that introduce students to the idea of travel.

In November 2023, Too Fly announced it will issue $60,000 worth of travel grants and passport scholarships, impacting over 40 students residing in various states, including in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Georgia and Washington D.C.  This cohort of grantees will be traveling to six continents, representing 12 countries, and 123,390 collective miles from home. To date, the Too Fly FOundation has helped nearly 300 students see the world.

The number of applications for our annual scholarship cycle continues to double each year,” says Bola Ibidapo, Executive Director. “The hunger to see the world is there, but due to travel inequities and a lack of inclusion, many students do not have the support to do so. Many students in these underrepresented and under-resourced communities don’t even realize that the world is theirs to explore. That’s where the work of Too Fly comes in.”

Too Fly believes that travel is a privilege that every young person should have, no matter their race or socioeconomic background. Majority of scholars are the first in their family to own a passport or to travel outside of their state.

“We need a generation of globally-aware leaders,” says Too Fly’s Executive Director, Bola Ibidapo. “The time to develop the next generation of diverse leaders is now. studying and volunteering abroad has proven to develop more empathetic, culturally intelligent, and curious students. Travel simply helps mold our next generation of leaders.”
