Students Exploring the World with Olympic Spirit: Travel, Curiosity, and Pride
As the world gears up for the upcoming Olympic Games, the excitement is ramping up. Flags are flying, anthems are on replay, and athletes are ready to dominate in their sport. But beyond the spectacle of sports, the Olympics are a celebration of global unity and cultural exchange. This is where the importance of student travel intersects with the Olympic spirit, offering a unique educational experience that goes beyond textbooks. Here at Too Fly Foundation our mission is to create a world where every student has the opportunity to see the world. Now let’s explore how the world of student travel mirrors the spirit of the Olympics.
Appreciating a diversity of cultures
The Olympic Games offer excitement around global travel. Through the Olympics we see the diversity of places and cultures collide. Backgrounds, experiences, lifestyles, customs, traditions, etc. come together. This is something unique that travel brings. Traveling gives us the opportunity to deeply learn about others.. It makes us appreciate others. It creates interest and curiosity. These Olympics Games are creating an opportunity to embrace diversity and differences while centering unity.
PRIDE IN YOUR HERITAGE
Many of our students have had the opportunity to travel abroad. We believe traveling abroad gives a sense of appreciation for where you come from as well as where you’ve visited. It’s an opportunity to interact with others and share experiences. There is this sense of pride that one has when sharing bits and pieces of their culture. There is pride in learning more deeply about your roots. Just as much as one has pride in their cultures, there is a curiosity to learn about others and where they’ve come from. We believe that if we remain curious, we are remaining open-minded and understanding.
BRIDGING THE GAP
As Too Fly, it is our duty to promote the benefits of travel for underserved and under resourced students. We look to bridge the gaps that exist for students in travel. We want to foster the inclusive spirit of the Olympics and have students from everywhere see the world. Beneficiaries like Show Me the World and College of the Desert have taken students to Costa Rica and Japan. These students are working diligently to create opportunities like these for themselves. The same way we see Olympic athletes train and prepare themselves to compete, our students have studied, applied for scholarships, sought these opportunities and are reaping benefits far greater than they could have expected through these travel abroad experiences.
