[PRESS RELEASE] DALLAS MAVERICKS PARTNER WITH TOO FLY FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE VIRTUAL TRAVEL EXPERIENCES TO DALLAS YOUTH

DALLAS, TX, … Mavs Take ACTION! has partnered with the Too Fly Foundation to provide virtual travel experiences for middle schoolers in South Dallas. The Too Fly Foundation is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) that provides travel grants and passport scholarships to help underrepresented youth study abroad. Mavs Take ACTION! is a social advocacy initiative of the Dallas Mavericks, which addresses racial inequalities, promotes social justice, and drives change within Dallas/Fort Worth.

Together, Too Fly and Mavs Take ACTION! have created a unique version of Too Fly’s virtual travel experience called Travel@Home. This experience bridges the gap between technology, travel, and education. Students are able to experience and learn about different countries through virtual reality simulations and course workbooks.

“Mavs Take ACTION! wanted to work with Too Fly because of the innovative aspect of bringing travel experiences to students who may not have had the opportunity to do so, said Kamri Brown, Coordinator for Mavs Take ACTION!.  “We want to be sure that all students have equal opportunities and are exposed to programs like Too Fly. We loved being able to create the “Mavs Tour” which allowed students to have an immersive experience from countries of their favorite Mavs players.”

“Travel@Home was created during at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Bola Ibidapo, Too Fly Cofounder & Executive Director. “Too Fly wanted to create an experience that sparked the curiosity of young people at home, who likely are not given or exposed to the opportunity of travel.”

The travel experience and curriculum were shared with the For Oak Cliff Community Center students in June 2022. Too Fly and Mavs Take ACTION! anticipate expanding this programming throughout Dallas in 2022-2023.
