inspiring students to learn and grow through careers in travel

The heart of Too Fly has always been to highlight the possibility of exploring the world through studying and volunteering abroad and through engaging with travel organizations. We know how valuable travel can be for developing minds like our students - opening the eyes, hearts, and minds of all who are fortunate enough to do it. this goes beyond traveling once or twice, outside of school-funded programming, we have to enforce that students deserve to travel even after the completion of their degree and become inspired, lifelong, travelers and learners.

In the early stages of our Travel@Home program, we wanted to introduce students to a world that included travel even beyond school. We determined that finding people who looked like them in careers that involved travel would be great exposure to what could be. for students, We curated a list of potential careers that involve travel like a pilot, flight attendant, travel agent, consultant, travel blogger/vlogger, and so many more.

 Jennifer AnekE
Senior Security Control Assessor

We firmly believe that highlighting the stories, inspirations, and lessons learned from those that have traveled will directly impact those students that have yet to travel, especially when the youth can see themselves in our adult travelers.

Jennifer Aneke, a senior security control assessor is inspired by her ability to experience different cultures and the beauty of our world in nature. She shares that, “Being able to be on an island and see pink sand and rocks that naturally built themselves into cliffs is remarkable. Also seeing joy in different forms humbles you and gives a different perspective. I love meeting new people and understanding what matters to them.”

This is a similar sentiment to that shared by co-founder and chief creative officer of Black & Abroad, eric martin. he shares, think of the world as one big geography and history lesson. There's so much to learn about geography, and the history is almost infinite. The history books only give us one dimension, and the stories are usually told by the winners,” when thinking of our education taking that perspective is important. He continues, “We have to remember that there were so many events in the world that happened concurrent to the versions of history we're taught. Even as you're reading this, there are millions of events happening globally at this one moment. Travel is a way for us to explore these different layers of history, as well as the perspectives of impacted people, respective to different regions, regardless of time.

When asked what inspires Zach Ellis to travel, it is simply that, “[He] loves to travel because it gives [him] the opportunity to learn, grow and make memories.” As a technology consultant and customer Engineer, zach has the opportunity to travel through his work.

The bridges between curiosity, inspiration, and learning are what are foundational to our work at too fly. Larif Hamm, travelpreneur and founder of peculiar travel had the opportunity to study abroad, an experience that often comes with a financial burden to some students. When asked what he learned in this experience, he said, “When I studied aboard, experiencing travel in real-time brought forth a whole new perspective and attraction. Every time I travel, I learn something new. I love how more and more colleges and universities are offering study-abroad opportunities for students. It’s life-changing and allows students to learn new skill sets and expand their worldview.”

DARRYL WYRICK

Jeneva Burton
Travel Blogger and Vlogger

And like Larif, we firmly believe that students can and should learn beyond the textbook and it is through these experiences that students can become lifelong, curious learners. darryl wyrick has the opportunity to help others learn to travel in a unique way as the Chief of Staff and Head of Marketing and Communications for United Aviate Academy. “For those like me, a visual learner, traveling allows you to immerse yourself into the culture of another. It's something no story and/or textbook can give you; there's so much value in a lived experience,” he shares. United Avaiate Academy is a flight training academy and is part of the next generation of highly qualified, talented, and diverse professional pilots.

As you’ve seen, travel can and should go beyond a singular moment. Careers do not have to limit us in travel, they can be enablers to a lifestyle filled with travel, fueling our curiosity. As travel blogger, Jeneva Burton, puts it, “ I’m inspired to travel because I love meeting people and learning. I love learning about different cultures and meeting people around the world, especially if they look like me.”

There are so many ways that we can travel the world, So many jobs that include travel in the job description, and Here at Too Fly we want to expose students in under-resourced communities to all the possible opportunities to see the world.
