5 Ways You and Your Company Can Help Students Travel Abroad Through Too Fly Foundation

As the world begins to slowly reopen, we are all eager to begin traveling again...

…Just as we are excited, we can guarantee our students are even more excited! Looking ahead, schools and organizations will likely start reintroducing study abroad. At Too Fly, our mission is to equip students from under-resourced communities with passports, travel grants, and educational experiences so that they, too, can see the world.

To date, we have been able to impact over 150 students, pilot our Travel@Home program with Crowned Scholars, provide individual grants to over 73 students across 8 states, support 5 travel organizations across 3 states, and help students travel 187K miles with your support. Our scholars have been able to experience the world, gain insights and knowledge, expand their world view and create lasting memories. We are currently gearing up to open our scholarship applications and scale our Travel@Home program. Here’s how you and your company can continue to support our vision throughout 2021 and beyond:

1) Host a Fundraising Event or Campaign

This past year we’ve seen an increase in individuals starting fundraiser campaigns on our behalf. From birthday campaigns to internal company giving competitions, we’ve been on the beneficiary end which helps us pour into our students and close travel, education, and technology gaps. These are great ways to engage with your network in support of a great cause.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Think about running a campaign on behalf of Too Fly Foundation. It doesn’t need to be extravagant, but just know it will be impactful!

2) Donate a % of Your Product or Service Sales

Are you a business owner? Do you sell a product our service? Think about donating a certain percentage of your product or service sales to Too Fly Foundation. Your donations accumulate over time as a part of our Passport Partner Program which afford you certain incentives and perks as you reach certain milestones.

By producing hoodies and t-shirts, Too Fly x Planes is dedicating a portion of the proceeds to support the cause. “Travel is one of the keys to unlocking one’s imagination. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Run a week- or month-long campaign donating a percentage of your product or service sales to Too Fly, reach out to info@tooflyfoundation.org if you’re interested!

3) Encourage Your Coworkers to Use Amazon Smile

We have been doing tons of shopping on Amazon lately. Did you know if you made your purchases through Amazon Smile you could choose a beneficiary and Amazon will send a percentage of your purchase price to that organization?

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Shop Amazon Smile, choose Too Fly Foundation as your beneficiary and support our mission and vision. Tell your friends and coworkers to shop Amazon Smile, it’s super simple!

4) Leverage Your Company Match Program

Many companies will match individual contributions since Too Fly Foundation is a registered 501c3 nonprofit! Leveraging company matches will essentially provide Too Fly with two donations for the work of one. Donors love knowing their dollars are going even further than initially intended and this is a great way to align with the incentives your employer likely already has in place!

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Do us a favor, check out your company matching policy. Sometimes we don’t even know they offer this perk. Note, you may have to nominate Too Fly within your company tool, if so, we can provide you will all the information you need to get it set up.

5) Provide In-Kind Donations

We are always accepting in kind donations to pass along to our students and fundraiser attendees. If it’s something you think we can use please don’t be afraid to reach out. This past year we received suitcases from Away. Yes, suitcases from Away. If you work with an airline, we're happy to work with you. If you're interested in donating miles, if you work with a luggage company we’ll take the expired luggage, if you work for a technology company and have refurbished devices, think of us! There is no limit on the types of things that could be useful and this is a great way to spread your company’s message and tap into new markets.

Senegal is a beautiful country with so much to offer to its people and the world. During the Summer Heritage Program, we spoke with NGOs who partook in solar energy efforts around Senegal.

Not a lot of people, no matter what age can travel especially if you’re a minority, it seems like, but Too Fly allowed me to travel and look at the world differently and to finally say that I’ve been somewhere that my ancestors may have stood makes me extremely interested to not only go back to Senegal but to continue my exploration in Africa by going to each and every country that I can possibly get to which is now my long term goal thanks to Too Fly.

My time in Guadeloupe has opened my eyes to traveling in a different way.
